Twig

and September’s first week…

Slippery elm twig, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=86144

At summer’s slip
turn to the elm.
Its branches speak
to time and realm.

June made promise
July paid rent
August dallied
and warmth was spent.

September slows
into the rhyme
of single twig
and paradigm.

Take dose of tea
and walk in wood
then turn back to
your neighborhood.

NOTE: The slippery elm is native to North America and it offers medicinal qualities that might cure the kind of hangover too much summer causes.
In September, a person can gather up their emotional twigs and come back
to true selfhood. Season’s turnings are heart-rendering hellos/goodbyes.
