This comment may be highly (or slightly) inappropriate. When I was a child, my family’s next door neighbor was the sixth grade teacher of a very famous movie producer. She introduced us to the delight of vanilla ice cream inside the hollowed center of a ripe cantaloupe. Just a few weeks ago, on TV, I saw a clip of a man being served this dessert. He said it was called “The Mae West.”

Who knew this melon could mean so much, in so many different ways, to so many different people?

Including “them.”
