Masculine up!
Feminine down.
Votes have been cast —
nervous breakdown.

Her ovaries
test his testes.
Bodies at war —
no one’s at ease.

Novelist was
so prescient —
paid attention,
was clariant.

The Manmade’s Tale
occurs right now —
hatred we can
not disavow.

NOTE: When I was sorting through the collection of books I am privileged to own, I found a copy of The Handmaid’s Tale. It was hidden because each shelf contains two rows of books. When it came back into attention, it was screaming. I swear…I heard it. I opened it to a random page and read about the flag of Gilead that appeared as a graphic on the screen behind which handmaids were to remove clothing in the gynecologist’s office and read about the handmaid who kept referring to “the other time.”

Yes. That time before…now…and what may soon arrive for humanity.
