Democrat Eve
…on temptation, choice, and you’t, her, us
If more politicians knew poetry, and more poets knew politics, I am convinced the world would be a little better place to live.
~ John F. Kennedy, 1959
Election eve
upon us now
sits in the nude
with sweat on brow.
State and church on
impregnation
aborts peace for
women’s nation.
She knows the vote
involves a choice
that tallies our
collective voice.
Take the peach or
take the apple?
Or nurse splinters
from fence straddle.
This political cartoon was headline news in 1887. The temptation to use Eve’s nakedness to demonstrate the way political choice might be made was not overcome by the publisher — likely male. How much have we, the American electorate, changed in 137 years? For more information about this publication, see http://sallyasherarts.com/blog/?p=1028
